Poverty: Is It Necessary?

Poverty is the worst form of violence.Mahatma Gandhi

Don’t ask: “Why does God allow this to happen?”
Pray: “God… give me the wisdom and strength
to do what I must to stop this from happening?

Most of the problems related to poverty today lies on the fact that many civilized people are willing to live in comfort even if the price of this is poverty, ignorance, and sickness of many people around the world.

Poverty is the single biggest killer in the world today, and it is insane to say that it is the most preventable. -Minnie Driver, actress
It is easy enough to tell the poor to accept their poverty as God’s will when you yourself have warm clothes and plenty of food and medical care and a roof over your head and no worry about the rent. But if you want them to believe you—try to share some of their poverty and see if you can accept it as God’s will yourself! -Thomas Merton, Seeds of Contemplation

    1) What is poverty for you?

Poverty is when a person does not possess the necessary things to live and lead a normal healthy life. Poverty is not only when a person is poor, but also can be the selfishness of ourselves by not helping people who really need it.

2)Gandhi: "Poverty is the worst form of violence." What do you think he meant? Explain your answer in detail.

Sometimes we think that being violent towards a person only verbally abuse him, physically or emotionally, but violence is actually anything that involves a person's unhappiness. We as human beings wealthier our duty is to help people who need it most and is being offered them food and helping them financially. On some occasions we see people we need and not help and so Gandhi's phrase tells us that poverty is the worst form of violence.

    3) How can you contribute to your society to help stop violence?

To help stop violence we must first be aware that although we do not have everything we want what we needed to lead a normal life. Then we accept that we must begin to promote and raise awareness of the need of others and also among all slowly starting to overcome poverty.

Poverty for me means not being able to have the resources necessary to live normally having no home, money for food, transportation. Not having money is not the only poverty there, also consider that not having feelings and love of God to others is also a kind of poverty.

      2) Gandhi: "Poverty is the worst form of violence." What do you think he meant? Explain your answer in detail.

I think the violence is worse than poverty because of violence there are methods to get out of poverty, but it is something more serious. The country has a large influence of poverty, because if there are no resources to help people, there is no way they can make money.

      3) How you can contribute to society to help stop the violence?

This poverty is structural violence that affects the poorest and most vulnerable groups, and is much more frequent and behavior devastating violence, better known by the media and by society when they are marginalized by the way they dress, their speech, perhaps due to poor hygiene and many of them have to work from sunrise to sunset, this makes them the heaviest load.

    1. Poverty to me is the biggest expression of non human behavior. It is the one thing every person can help reduce but only a few are willing to do something about, it is the worst form in which injustice is revealed.

    2. Ghandi meant to make people understand that poverty is a form of violence because the majority of the people in the world can do something to stop it, but there is only a small group of people that are actually doing something. When you see someone suffering in poverty and you are one that can help, but are not willing to do something, it not only makes you violent, but it makes you part of what makes so many people suffer.

    1. For me poverty means lack of resources to meet basic human needs such as food, housing, education, health, clothing, water being. I also see it from other approaches such as poverty of values, mental, spiritual, social, among others.

    2. To my knowledge Gandhi refers to abuse having people over economic power with people of low social class, since people of lower social class are repressed and subjected to these people. For me it is a form of violence to see people entering basic needs to live a good quality of life, while social class high as the political and those above the monopoly only think about how to get more money without thinking of the people need, bringing these people to violent acts of desperation by rhodes, murder, among other things.

    3. To know the reality of the poor, see their needs, conditions and understand what their status as human beings. We must come together as citizens become aware and seek strategies to help these people in order to impose significant changes in their lives and in social life.

  21. 1) What is poverty for you?

Poverty for me is when people lack the elements of nutrition, personal hygiene, homelessness and employment.

Poverty is a difficult situation to live, both those who are on the street who have no home or employment to survive, and those of extreme poverty where there are malnourished families who do not have the resources to survive from it.

    2) Gandhi: "Poverty is the worst form of violence." What do you think he meant? Explain your answer in detail.

For me what Gandhi wanted to say is that poverty is the worst violence that exists, poverty I visualize in a subhuman way, and painful. I agree with Gandhi that poverty is the worst form of violence in the world. I think of the pain of those families, of children who do not have to eat, where to live, or with what to play, or simply do not have an education. I analyze my life where in spite of situations I have life, a home and I do not lack anything, and without a doubt I would contribute a bit to those families.

    3) How can you contribute to your society to help stop violence?

I would help to contribute to society to stop the violence of poverty, by campaigning for funds for hygiene products, clothing and footwear, food, and games for children.
I would also create an association or entity that can be established in areas where there is poverty to create jobs for this group of people so that they can move forward. I would seek support from social workers who, together with me, will provide the free counseling service, would seek doctors specialized in medicine general, nutritional medicine, psychiatric medicine and psychological medicine to help these families recover.
After helping to create jobs for these families, I would look for ways to improve their lifestyle, in a better place to live, or for the leaders of the country to provide infrastructure services to improve the quality of life in these areas.

    2. For Gandhi poverty is the worst form of violence. For me, I think Gandhi means that it is something that is happening right now, that you can tell that the society is causing and not many people are doing something about it to change the world. Sometimes we our self for being selfish or impatient is what can take us to poverty. But it is sad to sit and look around us and see so much people suffering around the world and do nothing about it.

    3. I can contribute our society to help stop violence by offering help to families in need, not only families but people that are also alone hiding. However, there are many countries that do not help to end poverty in these sectors and in many cases other countries give to those in need.

    3. I would contribute to make some collections of clothes, articles of first necessity, and food. It would also help that members of my country, such as charities and the Red Cross, can help us provide medical care together with specialized doctors so that this campaign will be a success and prevent more families from being affected.
